DESCRIPTION:Some of the mounds at Pinson were intentionally placed in order to mark to sunrises of at least two of the seasonal markers throughout the year\, with the most clearly marked one being the summer solstice. Join Ranger Dedra Friday morning to celebrate the first full day of summer. Whether you come for the historical significance\, or to feel the energy of the first sunrise of the summer\, we welcome you and would love to have you join us! We will meet in the museum parking lot at 5:00 AM\, and proceed to the mound’s summit. \nPlease note that this event is **WEATHER PERMITTING**. If we have inclement weather (heavy rain\, storms)\, a Facebook post will be issued before the time of the event\, or possibly the evening prior. SUMMARY:Jr. Ranger Camp 2024
DESCRIPTION:Junior Ranger Camp is limited to the first 15 campers to be registered. Registration fee ($30) should be paid by calling the park office at 731-988-5614. \nJoin the Pinson Mounds Rangers and Staff for a Day Camp full of discovery and fun! We will learn about what it means to be a Park Ranger by learning about safety\, Tennessee wildlife\, the environment\, and conservation! Activities will include Ranger led hikes\, games\, and crafts. Register quickly\, we only have 15 spots available! Adventure awaits! \nJunior Ranger campers need to wear sturdy shoes for hiking. Campers should apply sunscreen before arrival and bring extra sunscreen\, bug spray\, and a small backpack to carry items in. Insect repellent and a camera are also recommended. Some snacks and water will be provided during the camp\, but campers are encouraged to bring their own favorite snack. \nThere will be a graduation Ceremony for all Jr. Rangers that complete the course. The ceremony will be held at the Playground Picnic Shelter Saturday at 10:00 am. Families are welcome to attend. Star clusters containing thousands to sometimes millions of stars glitter like cosmic jewel boxes\, large clouds of gas and dust that pervade our Milky Way glow as stars form within\, and we even get the opportunity to look past our own galaxy to spy some of its bright galactic neighbors. Join astronomer and Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory director Dr. Billy Teets for a discussion about these objects and more as we virtually tour the spring sky. If clear skies abound\, attendees will also have a chance to possibly view the Moon\, Jupiter\, and some of the deep-sky objects highlighted in the talk through a telescope. DESCRIPTION:Join Pinson’s Ranger for a celebratory hike of the mounds on the first day of the year. This adventure is for anyone wanting to learn about the mound complex or anyone just wanting to go on a nice stroll. The hike will start and end at the Museum Parking lot\, covering 2 miles. Please bring water\, close-toe shoes\, and warm clothes. If the program is canceled for inclement weather\, attendees will be notified by phone. DESCRIPTION:This event is open to all skill levels who like to run\, walk\, or a combination of both! The race kicks off when you are ready to go any day between May 15th and May 22nd\, either on a treadmill around your neighborhood\, or any course you choose. You can log your time at any point during the week. We encourage everyone to complete your miles on May 20 in spirit of celebrating World Bee Day! If you would like to complete your 5K on May 20th\, we encourage you to come out to Pinson Mounds State Park and use the 5K course we have created at the park! Runners who complete their 5K at the park will be able to pick up their finisher medal between 8:00am- 4:30pm. REGISTRATION: https://honeybee5k.itsyourrace.com/event.aspx?id=15777 Register any time between now to May 22\, 2023. We encourage all runners to register before May 5 to be guaranteed a finisher medal. Virtual 5K: The registration fee is $25. This fee includes a virtual bib\, finishers medal\, and a certificate for donating to the Honey Project.
