Jackson Regional Airport Awarded $10 Million State Grant Following Legislative Approval

Jackson Regional Airport Awarded $10 Million State Grant Following Legislative Approval

Jackson Regional Airport is preparing for takeoff on its next phase of growth, following the official approval of Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s FY25-26 state budget. Included in the newly passed budget is a $10 million grant designated for the airport—marking another major step forward in its development as a regional transportation and economic engine.

The new funding will support the construction of vital infrastructure, including:

  • Two new corporate hangars, complete with dedicated parking areas, roadways, a new apron, and taxi lane access. These facilities will better accommodate business-class and charter aircraft, offering long-term storage and service space for corporate aviation clients. This is expected to attract aviation-related businesses to the region and strengthen Jackson’s role as a hub for corporate travel.
  • A new T-hangar designed for general aviation tenants, including private pilots and aircraft owners. The project also includes apron space and foundational infrastructure for future T-hangar expansions, ensuring flexibility to meet increasing demand and supporting long-term service goals.

Together, these developments will significantly expand the airport’s ability to serve both corporate and general aviation needs, generate new economic opportunities, and support continued air service development across West Tennessee.

This grant builds on more than $35 million in improvements completed last year, which included a new runway, a fully renovated air traffic control tower, and upgraded lighting and navigation systems, which greatly expanded the airport’s capacity and readiness for increased traffic.

Jackson Regional Airport has also recently added TSA screening capabilities, enabling expanded commercial air service. Passengers now benefit from multiple weekly 50-passenger jet flights to Atlanta and Chicago via Denver Air Connection, providing reliable, efficient air access for both business and leisure travelers.

Steve Smith, Executive Director of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority, emphasized the importance of partnerships: “This kind of progress doesn’t happen without teamwork, a true regional focus, and great cooperation from local, state, and federal partners. We’re incredibly thankful to Governor Lee for recognizing the importance of Jackson Regional Airport and continuing to invest in its future.”

Cindy Melton, Airport Manager, highlighted the impact of the investment: “We’re incredibly excited and thankful for this continued support. This investment strengthens our infrastructure and gives us the capacity to handle more aircraft, expand hangar space, and support future growth. It’s a strategic step that helps us keep pace with demand and continue serving the region with excellence.”

Brandon David, Deputy Airport Director, added: “This funding gives us the capacity we’ve been needing—more hangar space means better service for our corporate clients and general aviation tenants. It’s a huge boost for FBO operations and long-term growth.”

Rusty Reviere, Chairman of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority, reflected on the project’s momentum: “I could not be prouder of the progress we’ve made. If there was ever an example of a team effort, this is it. This project has brought together leaders from every level, local, state, and federal—to push Jackson Regional Airport forward. The momentum is real, and it’s only growing. Full speed ahead!”

Mark Taylor, JMCAA Vice-Chairman, commented: “As a local business owner, I know firsthand how critical this airport is to the business community. Reliable air access helps us compete, grow, and connect with new opportunities. This investment will pay dividends across our local economy.”

Jimmy Harris, JMCAA Commissioner, added: “This funding is a big win for our region, and we appreciate Representative Chris Todd’s leadership as well as other local and state officials in making it happen. It’s another step forward for Jackson Regional Airport and West Tennessee.”

Jackson Mayor Scott Conger voiced strong support for the project: “We’re incredibly grateful to Governor Lee for including this $10M grant for Jackson Regional Airport in the budget. This investment will have a lasting impact on Jackson and the entire region. It strengthens our infrastructure, expands our economic potential, and helps position West Tennessee for continued growth.”

A.J. Massey, Madison County Mayor, stated: “We’re honored to receive this $10 million investment, which will greatly enhance Jackson Regional Airport’s capacity and strengthen our region’s transportation infrastructure. It’s a major step toward greater access for residents, businesses, and industries—and a foundation for long-term economic growth across West Tennessee.”

Senator Ed Jackson celebrated the announcement: “This is great news for Jackson Regional Airport to assist in their growth for the future. These kinds of investments help strengthen West Tennessee’s role in regional transportation and business development.”

State Representative Chris Todd emphasized long-term advocacy for the project: “Our team has been working closely with Governor Lee and legislative colleagues for over two years to highlight the critical infrastructure needs at Jackson Regional Airport. Providing safe, efficient transportation is one of the government’s core responsibilities, and I’m proud we were able to secure this funding to support the airport’s expansion. These upgrades will benefit all of West Tennessee—improving travel times, reducing costs, and boosting opportunities for residents and businesses.”

State Representative Johnny Shaw shared a community-focused view: “Jackson Regional Airport is a gateway for opportunity in West Tennessee, and this funding helps keep that gate open wide. It’s not just about planes—it’s about progress. From small business owners to students and families, this investment helps everyone move forward.”

Kyle Spurgeon, President and CEO of the Greater Jackson Chamber, added: “The growth of Jackson Regional Airport will continue to strengthen West Tennessee’s position as one of the country’s preferred business locations. Thank you to Governor Lee and our elected officials who have worked together to develop a plan to identify and budget the financial resources required to enable expansion of the airport.”
