Jackson Fire Department’s Top 6% National Ranking Reflects Excellence in Fire Protection and Community Safety

The Jackson Fire Department is proud to announce it has once again achieved an ISO Class 2 Public Protection Classification (PPC) — one of the highest distinctions a fire department can earn. This elite rating places Jackson Fire Department in the top 6% of fire departments nationwide, underscoring the department’s ongoing commitment to excellence in public safety and emergency response.

This significant achievement is the result of the hard work and dedication of Jackson’s firefighters, coupled with the collaborative support of the Jackson Energy Authority – Water Department and Jackson Central Dispatch. Together, these departments worked tirelessly to meet and exceed the rigorous standards set forth by the Insurance Services Office (ISO).

The ISO evaluates fire departments on a scale of 1 to 10, with Class 1 representing superior property fire protection. A Class 2 rating reflects outstanding performance across multiple categories, including:

· Firefighter Training and Operations

· Deployment and Staffing of Fire Suppression Units

· Community Risk Reduction Programs – including public safety education, fire code enforcement, and fire investigations

· Water Supply System – assessing hydrant availability, placement, inspection, and flow capacity

· Emergency Communications – evaluating call processing, dispatching protocols, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) technology

“This Class 2 rating is a testament to the strength, professionalism, and daily efforts of our firefighters and emergency partners,” said Fire Chief Don Friddle. “It reflects our shared mission of keeping Jackson safe and prepared.”

Benefits for the Community:

The improved ISO rating can lead to lower insurance premiums for homeowners and businesses in Jackson, as insurance providers use PPC scores to help determine risk and set rates.

The Jackson Fire Department remains committed to ongoing improvement, innovation, and public service. This rating reaffirms the city’s investment in life-saving infrastructure and preparedness that protects residents, businesses, and visitors every day.
