SUMMARY:Booming on the Battlefield
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 5\, and Sunday\, August 6\, the roar of cannon will return to Shiloh National Military Park. The scheduled firing demonstrations will be presented by the Shiloh cannon crew\, firing a 6-pounder field piece. Please meet for the program across the street from the park visitor center. Park living historians will fire the gun\, introduce the equipment and tools of the 19th century cannoneers\, and tell the story of how these powerful guns impacted the outcome of battle at Shiloh. The park hopes this special experience will help you imagine the smell and sounds of the 1862 battlefield. The cannon firing demonstrations will take place at 10:00 am\, 11:30 am\, 1:30 pm\, and 3:00 pm on Saturday and at 11:00 am\, 1:00 pm\, and 2:30 pm on Sunday. Each program will last approximately 20-minutes\, and interpret the weapons\, projectiles\, and procedures Civil War artillery crews used during the war. The award-winning park film\, ‘Shiloh: Fiery Trial’\, is being shown in the park visitor center auditorium at the top of the hour starting at 8:00 am with the last showing at 4:00 pm. There is never a fee for park programs or to enter Shiloh National Military Park. SUMMARY:First Friday Art Walk
DESCRIPTION:From March through November 2023\, the Jackson Arts Council will organize ‘First Friday Art Walk’ events in Downtown\, Jackson. These monthly events will take place on the first Friday of the month from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in local businesses all within walking distance of one another in Downtown Jackson’s newly designated Arts District.  The public will now have regular monthly opportunities to shop for local art directly from local artists. Artists will popup inside of the storefronts of local businesses to sell their work. The purpose of these events is to increase opportunities for the public to engage with the arts\, increase opportunities for local artists to sell their work\, increase arts opportunities within the Arts District\, and increase walkability and economic activity in Downtown\, Jackson.  Artists and fine crafters of all backgrounds and skill levels who are interested in selling their work at these events must be Artist Members of the Jackson Arts Council. If you are interested in popping up at First Friday Art Walks and you are not yet an Artist Member\, become a member of the Jackson Arts Council by clicking this link. DESCRIPTION:A nonprofit organization based in Jackson\, Tennessee\, Miss Tennessee Volunteer is a statewide\, service-oriented scholarship program seeking to empower young women through education and opportunity. One of the top providers of scholarships for young women in Tennessee\, Miss Tennessee Volunteer is also the #1 economic driver for the City of Jackson. In 2010\, the Community Economic Development Commission surveyed the impact of the Pageant and found it to bring over $2M to Jackson during Pageant Week. Not only is Miss Tennessee Volunteer important to the community\, but it is vital to the education of the young women of our state.This year alone\, Miss Tennessee Volunteer awarded our 36 contestants over $80\,000 in college scholarships. Miss Tennessee Volunteer 2023\, Paige Clark\, will crown her successor on at the conclusion of tonight’s competition.
