SUMMARY:Gene Watson
DESCRIPTION:The one you’ve been asking for is coming back to Henderson\, TN! \nCountry music legend and icon\, GENE WATSON with The Farewell Party Band!! \nThis masterful country stylist from Houston\, Texas has been thrilling audiences for more than 60 years. \nThe man is now known as “The Singer’s Singer.” Gene Watson’s tally of 75 charted titles\, 23 top-10 hits and 6 number-one records has led to membership in the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. \nRadio listeners are still transfixed whenever classics like “Farewell Party\,” “Fourteen Carat Mind” or “Love in the Hot Afternoon” are played. The depth of emotion in his singing\, his brilliant phrasing\, his jaw-dropping range and the power in the lyrics he chooses are all factors in the awe he inspires in both fans and his musical peers. \nAt an age when most people are contemplating retirement\, Gene Watson is still making some of the greatest records of his life\, receiving such accolades as Album of the Year and even Album of the Decade from journalists around the world. Watson earned the title of 2010 Country Music Legend of the Year\, from Citadel Media’s Real Country Radio Network nationwide fan vote. \nWatson is one of the rare singers who still sings in the same key as he did 30 years ago and his audiences respond with standing ovations night after night when he nails the octave jumping last note on his most requested song\, the now country classic “Farewell Party.” As Rodney Crowell so aptly stated\, “Just when I think Country Music is a lost art form\, something by Gene Watson catches my ear and I can breathe again.” \nConsidered one of the finest pure-country singers of his generation Watson offers up one of the best traditional country shows in the business. His stunning voice captivates audiences and keeps his fans coming back again and again. \n— \nClick here for tickets and more information.

SUMMARY:BlackHawk
DESCRIPTION:90’s country icons\, BlackHawk\, will be at Williams Auditorium on Friday\, August 30 at 7:00 pm. \nClick here for tickets and more information. \n— \nFor years\, BlackHawk has shared a unique sense of harmony with their voices\, their songs and their fans. It’s a harmony that has sold over 7 million albums\, scored some of the most distinctive country radio hits of the ‘90s\, and still draws tens of thousands of fans to their electrifying live performances. \nToday\, BlackHawk continues to honor its past as it forges its future\, and does it all with a commitment that takes their music – and the harmony – to a whole new level. \nBlackHawk’s 1993 self-titled Arista debut album launched with the smash single “Goodbye Says It All\,”  followed by the Top 5 hits “Every Once in a While\,”  “I Sure Can Smell the Rain\,”  “Down in Flames\,” and “That’s Just About Right.” The album soon certified Double-Platinum\, and the band received an ACM nomination as Best New Vocal Group Of The Year. \nBlackHawk followed up with the hit albums Strong Enough\, Love & Gravity\, and Sky’s The Limit\, which collectively featured such hits as “I’m Not Strong Enough To Say No\,”  “Like There Ain’t No Yesterday\,”  “Big Guitar\,”  “Almost A Memory Now\,”  “There You Have It\,” and “Postmarked Birmingham.” It was an unprecedented run of hits for a band that never quite fit the standard country mold.

SUMMARY:A Tribute to Legends Sarah Vaughn and John Coltrane
DESCRIPTION:The Jazz Foundation of West Tennessee presents a tribute to legends Sarah Vaughn and John Coltrane on September 21st\, 7 pm\, at the Ned R. McWherter Cultural Arts Center in Downtown Jackson\, Tennessee. The concert features vocalist Jamille “Jam” Hunter and saxophonist Don Aliquo. Hunter will perform from her CD “Sassy Returns\,” a tribute to Sarah Vaughn\, and Aliquo will play John Coltrane 1961\, a year that was instrumental in the development of the now-icon jazz musician. \nJAMILLE “JAM” HUNTER is a Michigan-born\, Memphis-based jazz and soul singer-songwriter who is making her mark on the music scene with her mesmerizing vocals and contemporary approach to classic and modern jazz. With years of gigging in the R&B and soul arena under her belt and previous classical training\, Jam began to train intensively as a jazz vocalist in Los Angeles at the world Stage of Leimert Part. Practicing technique under the guidance of drummer Billy Higgins\, bassists Al McKibbon and Kevin O’Neal and pianist Dini Clark\, she fell in love with jazz and never looked back. Seeking an international experience\, she left Los Angeles and hit the state in Nagoya\, Japan\, where she honed her craft as the lead vocalist at the Stardust Jazz Lounge. Recently\, Jam released her live recorded CD titled “Sassy Returns: The SV Project.” This tribute to the late\, great Sarah Vaughn was a credit to Jam’s greatest inspiration. Jam\, along with her band\, Mood Swing\, has performed at the River Arts Fest\, The On Location International Film and Music Festival\, The black Arts Fest\, the Memphis International Jazz Festival and the Soulsville Music Fest\, in addition to numerous clubs and venues. \nDON ALIQUO was born in Pittsburgh on May 10th\, 1960. His father\, a proud Italian\, hooked his son on jazz at an early age\, including John Coltrane’s Giant Steps (“Coltrane was my main inspiration”) and Sonny Rollins classics\, including “Strode Rode” and “Pent-Up House.” He has muis degrees from Duquesne University as well as the Berkelee College of Music and has performed with such greats as Greg Osby\, Marvin Stamm\, Roger Humphries\, Eddie Harris\, George Benson\, Stanley Turrentine and others. Aliquo has recorded six CDs\, has taught in China\, Columbia\, and Spain\, and is currently on the faculty at Middle Tennessee State University as a professor of music. \nFor tickets or more event information\, click here.
