Juneteenth is an annual celebration of slave emancipation that began in 1865. It became a federal holiday in 2021 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
The 2024 celebration of the end of slavery will continue in the evening with a FREE event from 5-9 p.m. This special event will feature live music, presentations, shopping and activities in the museum and heritage park. Special guests include Dr. Yancy Freeman, chancellor at the University of Tennessee at Martin, Kat Anderson and more.
