Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store Named “Large Business of the Year” at 2023 Jackson Chamber Annual Celebration

Celebrated for its longevity and commitment to the community, Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store was named Business of the Year (large category, 50 or more employees) during the Greater Jackson Chamber’s Annual Celebration held Nov. 16 at Union University’s Chapel. In addition to area businesses, the event honored local nonprofits, volunteers, and ambassadors.

“We’re truly humbled and appreciative of this recognition from the chamber,” said Brooks Shaw, third-generation owner of The Old Country Store. “Our story began nearly 60 years ago, and our mission has always been not only to serve our guests but to be of service in our community as well.”

The Old Country Store and Casey Jones Village host several monthly events, including craft camps and Testimonies at the Table, in addition to annual events that include the Christmas Eve Breakfast and the Casey Jones Village Festival. Not only does The Old Country Store restaurant offer traditional Southern fare buffet style, but it also invites guests to enjoy shopping and learning experiences at The Farm at Casey Jones Village, Art in the Village, and the Casey Jones Museum.

The business is a second-chance workplace, offering a supportive work environment for individuals with special needs and those who are in recovery from substance abuse.

“You guys are the example of business owners who give their business to God, and everyone benefits. Thank you for all you do for the community, especially the recovery community,” said Amy Bechtol in a video congratulating the business. Bechtol is the Faith-Based Community Coordinator for the West Tennessee Grand Division of the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Nathan Young, part of the Care Center in Jackson, also praised The Old Country Store in a video. “This business not only offers a great product, but it also reaches beyond its doors to other agencies and other ministries in our city. Their years of generosity and hospitality have been demonstrated in their care of those who come to their business.”

The chamber’s nomination committee selects the award recipients. “We want to recognize the success of leading businesses, inspire others, and promote best practices in the community,” said Kyle Spurgeon, president and CEO of the Greater Jackson Chamber.
