The Tennessee General Assembly has allocated $5 million in its 2024-2025 fiscal year budget to support capital maintenance and improvements for museums across the state. Administered through the Tennessee State Museum, this funding is directed at nonprofit 501(c)(3) museums and is aimed at preserving Tennessee’s historical treasures for future generations.
The Bemis Historical Society is thrilled to announce that it has received $19,080 from these funds for essential repairs and enhancements to the Bemis Mill Village Museum, located at 2 North Missouri Street in Jackson. Built in 1922, the museum serves as a cornerstone of local history, showcasing the legacy of Bemis Mill Village, a cotton-mill town established in 1900. The planned improvements are expected to be completed by June 30, 2025.
In addition to these exciting developments, the Society is gearing up for Bemis Heritage Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025. This annual celebration will mark the 125th anniversary of Bemis Mill Village and promises a day full of festivities, including cake and ice cream, a parade, games, and more.
Join them in commemorating this milestone and supporting the preservation of Bemis’ rich history! For more information about the Bemis Historical Society, the museum, or upcoming events, please contact Joel Jackson at (731) 571-5435 or visit their website at https://bemishistory.org/.
