Our Jackson Home, recently contracted to maintain and install new public art for the City of Jackson, has released their first project, which is a temporary sidewalk art painting, and has now opened a request for qualification for artists in the Jackson area.
The project aims to add aesthetic appeal in the area, encourage walkability, promote community engagement, and celebrate local artist talent. Artists living within 50 miles of Jackson, Tennessee, are encouraged to send qualifications to Our Jackson Home with a letter of interest to install a temporary sidewalk art installation on the west sides of the Lafayette St. and Shannon St. intersection in Downtown Jackson. The sidewalk installations will be located in front of the LOCAL and the Grace Media Group buildings.
“We’re looking forward to partnering with the City of Jackson on many public art projects this year that will support our creative sector and beautify our shared spaces. This temporary sidewalk art project is the perfect way to kick off a year of adding vibrant, colorful art to our Arts District,” Lizzie Emmons, Program Director of Our Jackson Home, said.
The chosen artist will be selected by City of Jackson Public Art Commission members. The artist will install the new sidewalk art with the assistance of community volunteers. The sidewalk design should be simple and add vibrant and complimentary color to the surrounding area. Material recommendations will be provided to the selected artist to ensure longevity of the art.
The timeline for this art installation is as follows:
